Getting Back Into It

Finally getting back to the blog – the first time since I wrote from Findhorn, and what a long time ago that was; and what a lot has happened since then. We opened with a big bash on October 7th with 400 or so friends, supporters and people who came out of pure curiosity. We had a great time and it was worth every bit of the effort – but it took its toll. It drained the team’s energy and in some ways we’re still recovering.

In the past couple of months the WorkClub has “come to be” – we have had a flurry of activity with a lot of people joining and starting to use the club – and of course in ways that we did not predict.

The past few months have been spent absorbing these new members in, hearing what they have to say, and mostly taking careful note of how they are making use of the space, the services and the community. And while we’re very happy with what we see, it’s also clear that we have a lot of work to do to make the workclub experience all we have envisioned it could be. Most importantly we have to build the critical mass; to build the buzz and the level of activity. We’re doing this on lots of fronts. We’re planning new marketing activities, starting in December but really getting going in 2005. And we’re taking a really careful look at our pricing structure and packages. We’ve carefully tuned our messaging, which you’ll start seeing appear on our website in the next week or so and day-by-day we’re building the procedures that make sure all aspects of the operations run smoothly.

I’ll leave it at that for now – but plan to come back to all these topics in the coming weeks. I will start making regular postings here; a sort of diary of the starting of what I feel more strongly than ever will be a landmark period in the evolution of an institution that will come to define the decade we are in. Not just at Gate 3, but through a myriad of organizations – commercial and civic – that I see springing up all around the world. I want to do this partly out of my own hubris, but because I think that the blog medium is so much about the spirit of the WorkClub – a place where there can be a sustained conversation about ideas, where all who participate in that conversation come away enlightened and enriched. So I invite those of you who may be reading this to come back regularly, and engage me in this conversation.

While my experience of Findhorn seems a long time ago, I remain true to my faith in the possibility and necessity for infusing our work-lives with meaning and spirit – and of the workclub as a vehicle for doing so.

Neil - Bravo - it takes courage and conviction to move a new concept forward.
I would be interested in what others have done tha has worked to claim new ground in their industries or businesses - specifially around marketing and sales activities.
